What is a "super pill?"

Astragaloside IV (Astragalus membranaceus root saponin)

Astragaloside IV is one of the ultimate nutraceuticals developed in the world in the modern nutraceutical era. It has many functions, including most of those traditionally associated with Astragalus root. Astragalus has many active constituents. By far the most important constituents are a range of saponins known as astragalosides. Astragalus has more than fifty such saponins, known as astragalosides. Astragaloside IV has been acknowledged as the most potent and health promoting of the astragalosides, though many of the others have potent actions as well. Astragaloside IV is a potent immune modulating substance. It has been shown in human and animal studies to promote the normal, healthy functions of the immune system when consumed in the doses suggested for this formula. This dosage has been established by the inventors and subsequent researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It has been used clinically in Asia for over fifteen years and its safety has been well established.* It may be used as a dietary supplement to promote normal, healthy functions and structural integrity. Ron Teeguarden has been working on bringing an Astragaloside IV product to market since 1994. The original work on Astragaloside IV was done at China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing China in the early 1990s. Ron purchased the rights to that research in 1995, and financially supported further Astragaloside research. The very first "standard" for Astragaloside IV in the world was produced by Ron's partners at that time. This original "standard" became the "standard" for the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and for the Chinese Pharmacopeia. In other words, all Astragaloside IV in the world is judged against that specific "standard." Due to cost issues of producing a refined Astragaloside IV product, the project has been on hold until recently. We are now extremely pleased to be bringing this incredible material to market in a "super pill" format. Astragaloside IV is being investigated for its function as an antiaging substance. It appears that it may have the capacity to slow down and even reverse the loss of telomere length due to oxidative stress and the process of aging. telomeres are generally credited with maintaining the integrity of dna by securing the ends of chromosomes. Telomeres are responsible for maintaining chromosomal stability and integrity. They do this by protecting the chromosome extremities from fusion and degradation. Telomeres also serve to camouflage chromosome ends from the "DNA damage response machinery." dna damage response can be defined as a network of mechanisms that (1) sense, signal and repair dna damage, and (2) regulate cell cycle progression and cell turnover. Without the telomeres, the mechanisms would perceive new chromosomes as defective. telomeres consist of a specific repetitive dna sequence. As we age, with each replication of a cell, the telomeres become shorter, until eventually they no longer are functional and the cell enters into a phase known as cellular senescence. These old cells never replicate again and mistakes begin to accumulate at a brisk pace. Degeneration and aging of the whole body is the result. Telomere length is widely believed to be a reliable marker for longevity in humans. But it is more than a mere "marker." Slowing down telomere loss is believed by many to slow down aging at the cellular level. There is considerable compelling evidence to support this theory. As a result, a theory of aging has evolved known as the Telomere Theory of Cell Senescence and Aging. According to this theory, the key mechanism that drives cellular aging is the loss of telomeric dna which will eventually cause chromosomal instability (collado et al., 2007). Telomerase is the unique enzyme able to elongate the ends of telomeres. Without telomerase, telomeres shorten. In the presence of telomerase, telomeres can maintain their healthy length. It is believed that Astragaloside IV is a mild telomerase "activator." A telomerase activator stimulates the enzyme telomerase that repairs telomeres and helps them maintain their youthful length. Astragaloside IV is also being investigated (in the United States) for its neuro-regenerative capacity. Studies have shown that Astragaloside IV may be able to protect against degeneration of neurological cells and tissues in humans. Astragaloside IV was first described in the Chinese Pharmacopeia in 1995 and has been used clinically in China since 1995 for a variety of anti-aging and immune-modulating purposes. Astragaloside IV is in clinical use in China as a cardioprotective agent. It has been demonstrated that the benefits of Astragaloside IV are significantly enhanced when combined with other Astragalus components, including the full spectrum of astragalosides known as Total Astragalosides. For that reason, Super Pill No. 2 contains an equal quantity of Astragaloside IV and Total Astragalosides. To assure that all components of high quality fresh astragalus are present, a full spectrum astragalus extract produced by fitt™ has been added so that no cofactor is left out of the formula.

Total Astragalosides (Astragalus membranaceus root saponins)

Astragalus contains over fifty known astragalosides, which are saponins that have a water soluble end and a fat soluble end. Saponins are major constituents of many of the ultimate tonic herbs, including ginseng, rhodiola, eleuthero and gynostemma. The total astragaloside fraction consists of all of the astragalosides naturally occurring in astragalus root. Numerous studies have shown that this Total Astragaloside Fraction has numerous powerful health benefits. The original work on the Total Astragaloside Fraction was done at China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing China in the early 1990s. Ron purchased the rights to that research in 1995, and financially supported further Astragaloside research. The Total Astragaloside Fraction is a very potent antioxidant. Each capsule of Super Pill No.2™ contains 30 mg of purified Total Astragalosides. This is a very potent dose. This is to increase the potency of the formulation and to support the actions of Astragaloside IV. The Total Astragaloside Fraction is very safe for human consumption.

Gypenosides (Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaf saponins)

Gypenosides are the main active constituents of Gynostemma pentaphyllum, an herbaceous vine that grows in semi tropical mountains in central and southern China. Gynostemma is one of the premier antiaging tonic herbs used in Chinese herbalism. It is a very effective broad spectrum anti-inflammatory and has no known side effects. It may be consumed daily for a lifetime. It is widely used in Asia as a general tonic. It is also widely used to reduce chronic low grade inflammation ("false fire"). Gynostemma is believed to slow down "inflammaging," the chronic inflammation-caused root of most aging in the human body. The Gypenosides, which are the primary active constituents of Gynostemma are saponins similar to those found in Ginseng and Astragalus. The gypenosides have the most impact on inflammation, especially when combined with fitt gynostemma extract, which is a full spectrum extract of the entire herb. The pure gypenosides are the richest possible source of gypenoside xlix (49), believed to be the most potent antiaging component of gynostemma, similar to astragaloside iv. gypenoside xlix has been demonstrated to counteract the deleterious effects of nuclear factor kappa b (nfkb), the substance at the root of all inflammation in all vertebrates and involved in most cell death in animals. Reducing the activity of Nuclear Factor Kappa B should be one of the goals of any longevity, antiaging program. 

This compound promotes aging and is at the center of all research into life extension. Gynostemma's broad reputation as a longevity herb is certainly based on this ability to quell Nuclear Factor Kappa B. gypenoside xlix has been shown in a rat study to be able to reverse the aging of skin, returning the skin of aged rats to that of young rats. Resveratrol (100% PureTrans)

Resveratrol is one of the most important nutraceuticals in the world today. It is a polyphenol molecule found in many plant species including grapes, peanuts, cranberries, Polygonum cuspidatum and others. Polyphenols are common in the human diet (at least among those who eat a healthy diet), where they act as antioxidants. In the plant, they act as antioxidants and protect against free radical damage by bacteria, fungi and UV radiation. Resveratrol exerts anti-aging effects in animals. Numerous studies have shown resveratrol has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, promotes vascular endothelial function, enhances lipid metabolism and has anti-cancer activity. It appears that resveratrol has numerous mechanisms by which it exerts its effects on the human body. It's anti-inflammatory actions are of great importance to slowing down aging and preventing degenerative disorders associated with aging. In particular, it inhibits NFkB signaling, which in turn down-regulates inflammatory cytokine expression in our cells. Inflammatory cytokines are the chemicals that stimulate inflammation in the body. When these cytokines are inhibited, there is less chronic inflammation in the tissues of the body. Resveratrol plays a powerful role in immune regulation by significantly inhibiting the secretion of numerous cytokines that cause inflammation, resulting in degeneration.

Resveratrol exerts powerful vascular support. Resveratrol can inhibit C-reactive protein (CRP). Crp is a non-specific inflammatory compound that is increased in acute and chronic inflammation and is a confirmed clinical "marker" of cardiovascular risk. Increased crp can induce vascular endothelial dysfunction and promote atherosclerosis. Daily intake of Resveratrol may be able to inhibit this deleterious activity within the vascular system. Resveratrol is being widely investigated for its proposed ability to improve cerebral blood flow, an important component of cognitive function. Reduction in cerebral blood flow is a well established cause of reduced cognitive function. Human studies have shown that Resveratrol quickly improves blood circulation. Resveratrol supplementation in studies of mice fed high-fat diets demonstrated an inhibition of fat deposition in abdominal organs and an increase in insulin sensitivity, compared to control mice. Many studies seem to indicate that this ability to regulate fat metabolism is key to the ability of Resveratrol to prolong life in most animals. Resveratrol is not only safe for the liver, but is actually a powerful liver protector. Studies indicate that Resveratrol can help prevent nonalcoholic and alcohol-induced fatty liver. Current research indicates that a daily dosage in humans of 100 – 400 mg of trans-resveratrol may be of benefit in inflammatory conditions, to support healthy metabolic functions, as an anti-aging agent, to protect the cardiovascular system and for many other reasons. It is widely believed that consuming Resveratrol with other anti-inflammatory antioxidants enhances the positive actions of Resveratrol, reduces the possibility of any side effects (minimal to start with), and reduces the quantity of Resveratrol required to be effective.
