Ginseng Supportive Combination™ is arguably the greatest classical general Three Treasures tonic in Chinese herbalism (and in the world). Containing all three Treasures, it has a tonifying and balancing effect by nourishing Yin and Yang Essence, building Blood, strengthening the Qi, and stabilizing the spirit (Shen).  

Ginseng Supportive Combination™ is composed of great tonic herbs, masterfully combined to make the formula more than a mere sum of its component parts.  

Ginseng, White Atractylodes, Astragalus and Licorice all support the "Spleen" function, as defined in classical Chinese health theory, assisting in building the Ying (Nutritive) Qi and the Wei (Defensive) Qi of the body. These four Qi tonics support the digestive functions and the assimilation of nutrients, and especially when combined in this formula with the supreme Blood tonic Dang Gui, profoundly enhance muscle development and growth, making the body very strong. Ginseng and Astragalus help to support the upright function, keeping the organs in place. These herbs are believed to help with the general drooping that takes place as a result of the normal aging process.  

Atractylodes and Poria are herbs which help the body help maintain normal fluid metabolism in normal healthy individuals. Licorice acts as a harmonizer, opening the meridians and pathways of the organism, while at the same time balancing the energies of the other herbs so they can act smoothly together. Citrus peel serves as a Qi regulator, allowing for better absorption of other herbs. Steamed Rehmannia, Schizandra and Cinnamon bark strengthen the Kidney essence (Jing).  Steamed Rehmannia, which is often called "the Kidney's own food," builds and tonifies the Yin of the Kidney and when combined with Dang Gui and White Peony becomes a supreme Blood building and strengthening tonic. Cinnamon bark helps to warm the Kidney and supports its functions. Schizandra is an herb which in and of its self contains all the three treasures, soothing the Shen, strengthening the Qi and nurturing the Essence. Schizandra also functions as an astringent which consolidates and locks the Essence in, and prevents the loss of Essence.Polygala harmonizes the energy of the Heart and Kidney by opening a channel of energy between the two organs, helping to calm temporary fear and to promote the sense of well being and the experience of love.  

Ginseng and Schizandra function well together as superb Shen tonics as a result of their great ability to help the body function optimally and adaptively while under tremendous levels of stress. ALL HERBS in China (and from most places) come in different grades based upon their variety, seed stock, growing source, growing conditions, care of the cultivators or collectors, and processing at various stages of the supply chain and during production.  

That's a lot to consider. But Dragon Herbs does take ALL factors these into account in selecting our raw materials and in producing our herbal products. Ginseng Supportive Combination™ is so widely consumed in China that many domestic herb factories produce it. Most of this production uses low grade herbs for price reasons. Many of the peasants of China take Ginseng Supportive Combination™, so many factories produce it with very cheap materials so that it costs just pennies.  

Dragon Herbs does not use low grade, less effective, raw materials for Ginseng Supportive Combination™ or any of its products. Dragon Herbs identifies sources of the BEST raw material, the kind preferred in Shanghai or Hong Kong by those who know herbs and want the best. We use this premium material to produce this important formula. 

Production technology also matters. Most factories just throw the herbs into a tank and cook the whole thing for a couple of hours, then they make a powdered extract of the tea using a lot of excipient (usually not natural). Dragon Herbs uses low temperature extraction using very pure water and no chemicals. We add the herbs carefully at incremental stages. Some of the herbs in Ginseng Supportive Combination™ can only be cooked for a few minutes. These "short cook" herbs are cooked separately and carefully and added at the end. For example, the Schizandra in Ginseng Supportive Combination™ must be cooked just for a few minutes at most because of its aromatic oil content.  

One very important process that most factories skip involves the collection of aromatic oils from the tea. Real Ginseng Supportive Combination has a sweet-earthy aroma. This is from the aromatic oils in the herbs. If the herbs are overcooked and the oils are allowed to evaporate, the true power of Ginseng Supportive Combination™ cannot be achieved – even if good quality herbs are used. Dang Gui, Cinnamon twig, Aged Tangerine rind and Fresh Ginger, for example, are rich in aromatic oils and should not be cooked as long as the other herbs, and the oils MUST be collected or the benefit of Dang Gui is lost.  

Dragon Herbs always processes its herbs using an "oil trap." An oil trap is a sophisticated device connected to the extraction system. It captures evaporating aromatic oils and collects them in crystallized form. These collected essential oils are therefore not lost. They are added back into the extract at the end of the process. And this makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE!*
