Historical Medicinal Use*:
Creosote bush (often referred to as chaparral when used as an herbal remedy) was historically used as a herbal supplement by Native Americans in the Southwest and Mexico as a treatment for many maladies, including sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, chicken pox, dysmenorrhea and snakebite. The Native Peoples also made a tea from the leaves in which to soak tee pee skins to keep them conditioned and purified of mold and other impurities.
For External Use*:
Vivapura offers Chaparral Infused Coconut Oil as a highly effective healing balm for external use only. The reason for this is that the fda has issued warnings about the health hazards of ingesting creosote bush or using it as an internal medicine and discourages its use. In 2005, Health Canada issued a warning to consumers to avoid using the leaves of Larrea species because of the risk of damage to the liver and kidneys. Used topically, Chaparral Coconut Oil has become a favorite for soothing skin conditions, relieving some discomforts when used as a intimate lubricant, and moisturizing and nourishing hair.
