Chewy, sweet and slightly nutty; pomegranate seeds are a unique addition to the Vivapura 'Superfruit' line. Pomegranate seeds are ultra high on the antioxidant scale and deliver that irresistible pomegranate flavor we all adore!

The pomegranate belongs to the family of Puniaceae and grows on a small, 6 10 m high, evergreen, shrublike trees, which can grow up to 200 years old. You can find a pomegranate tree from year 1659 in the "Royal Garden" (Germany / Hannover). The fruit of pomegranate is between 6 and 12 cm tall, round and has a leathery skin, which is yellowish to reddish when ripe. The interior of the pomegranate consists of transparent red, extremely juicy seeds which have a white or red edible kernel.

Our tasty, intensively flavored organic pomegranates are grow in the secluded and organically certified natural reserves in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan lies in Central Asia, along the famous Silk Road. The trees are watered with spring water at the foot of the Tien Shan mountain. This is how these exquisite fruits obtain their distinctive taste.

Our wild pomegranates are manually ploughed and skinned. The pomegranate seeds are then gently and slowly dried in the sun preserving all of the essential nutrients and the fullest flavor is retained.

Our dried pomegranate seeds are obtained from only the finest pomegranates. It goes without saying, that they do not contain any additives, preservatives or dyes and no sugar is added. Like all Vivapura Superfruits, these are 100 % natural.

In order to guarantee that they are free from pesticides, the pomegranates are also inspected by an independent accredited Austrian laboratory. Each fruit is handpicked and subject to laser cleaning, ensuring all unripe and unsatisfactorily dried pomegranate simply doesn't make it into the bag!

The pomegranates legendary history:

The pomegranate has been cultivated for more than 5000 years and is one of the oldest plants of mankind. Its native country is located in western to central Asia. It was introduced into the Roman Empire by the Phoenicians, who regarded it as a sacred plant. Even the name, Pomegranate goes back to Roman times (Latin granae = kernel, grains, Latin granatus = granular, multinucleated). Today it is often cultivated in the Mediterranean region.

During the Trojan War in Paris (son of the Trojan king Priam), presented a pomegranate to the Aphrodite. It is also a symbol of life. For this reason, segments of pomegranate have been found as burial object with Egyptian mummies. Even now it is considered as an aphrodisiac and is a component of innumerable love potions!

Pomegranate Power!*

Recently, Japanese researchers have discovered that the pomegranate is rich in Phytoestrogens, especially in estrone. Estrone is a mildly effective estrogen, which resembles the female sex hormone.

The pomegranate is best known for it's antioxidant capacity due to it's high level of secondary plant substances such as Polyphenols (flavonoids, tannins). The antioxidant capacity of the pomegranate seed is 4479 mol te (orac value) which is 3 times higher than blueberries or green tea! The high levels of antioxidants contained in pomegranates may help the body to fight off some forms of cancers. The antioxidants help the body protect healthy cells from free radicals. Cell damage done by free radicals can in some instances lead to cancer.

Very high in vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium. Has a stimulating effect that has a particularly positive effect on chronic fatigue, listlessness, infection and inflammation. Extremely high antioxidant capacity (3 times higher than blueberries or green tea!). High amounts of essential fatty acids and omegas (Lineoleic Acid and Oleic Acid). Studies show these antioxidants help reduce ldl (bad) cholesterol and maintain hdl (good) cholesterol levels. Could also help to lower high blood pressure.
